The search for Malaysian Airlines flight 370 has been stymied by bad weather today. The search will continue tomorrow for all of that debris seen floating in the India Ocean. Moving to Washington State, the number of missing in last weekend’s mudslide has dropped to 90.

Two firefighters in Boston are being remembered today, after they were killed fighting a 9-alarm fire. Lieutenant Edward J. Walsh and Firefighter Michael R. Kennedy passed away in the blaze and are being called heroes. The fast-moving fire tore through a building “like a blowtorch.” Thirteen other firefighters were injured.

President Obama and Pope Francis are meeting today for the first time. They’re mostly going to discuss the fight against poverty and growing inequality, which is something they both agree on. They’ll probably gently hint at areas they don’t, like gay marriage, abortion, and birth control rights.

Huge news in college football: the National Labor Relations Board in Chicago has ruled that college football players at Northwestern University ARE employees. This means they can unionize and demand better healthcare, four-year scholarships, and even to be paid. Northwestern is obviously going to appeal this ruling.

And traffic in Shreveport, Louisiana was snarled this week after thousands of corn dogs spilled all over a busy bridge. An 18-wheeler carrying 76,000 corndogs flipped when the driver overcorrected, and the delicious meat-like snacks flew everywhere. Sadly, they had to be loaded into a dumpster, and not into my mouth.

And have you ever looked at your emojis and thought, “Where are the black emojis? Asian emojis? Any emojis other than white?” Well, according to the Daily Mail, there will soon be more emoji diversity. Apple says it’s working to expand emojis to update the standard and bring equality to the adorable little smileys.

And thieves in Maryland have stolen over $500,000 worth of Hennessy. They hitched their truck to a cargo container that held 2,142 bottles of Hennessy congnac and drove it off. Police have found the cargo container but the cognac is gone, likely in these guys’ livers.
