Suspected Navy Yard Gunman's NYC Family 'Distraught'

The family of suspected Washington Navy Yard gunman Aaron Alexis, are distraught and shocked according to NBC 4 New York. The 34-year-old Alexis, who died Monday after shooting at least 12 people, reportedly was born in Queens and has close family living in Brooklyn.

NBC 4 New York reports that Alexis' mother, brother, sister, and brother-in-law currently live in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Anthony Little, who is married to Alexis' sister, told NBC 4 New York that the family is "distraught" over Monday's events.

"It's a shocking experience, nobody expected this," Little said. "No one saw it coming, no one knew anything. So all of this is just shocking."

Little also explained to NBC 4 New York that he never had a reason to suspect that Alexis was capable of going through with this type of violent crime. "I didn't really hear anything that would make me feel like, as a newcomer to the family, that somebody should be watching him," Little said. "No one mentioned anything about him being aggressive or being this type of way or anything like that."

As media gathered outside Little’s family home on Monday, he asked that they be given some time to "deal with this process."
