Senator Charles Schumer wants to throw a parade in New York City for veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
"With the completion of the Afghanistan combat mission expected at the end of this year, and with Iraq's official end far behind us, it's time for New York to stake its claim and for the Department of Defense to join in planning this welcome home celebration," Schumer said.
The Department of Defense has previously said a parade wouldn't happen until military operations are complete.
Now, Schumer believes the time is right to start planning a ticker tape parade along the Canyon of Heroes in lower Manhattan.
Mayor Bill de Blasio supports the idea.
"I stand with Senator Schumer in his call for a parade to honor our veteran heroes, and New York City would be proud to host this important event," de Blasio said.
