Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino has reportedly decided to run for governor of New York.
The New York Post reports the Republican will announce his candidacy next week, after receiving commitments of at least $15 million in campaign contributions. That would enable him to run a competitive race against Governor Andrew Cuomo, who is expected to have a campaign war chest of at least $40 million.
In challenging the popular governor, Astorino will outline "eight key issues" that voters care about.
"Let's put it this way, there are no shortage of issues to use against Governor Cuomo," an Astorino aide said.
It's unclear where this leaves Donald Trump. Trump has flirted with a run for governor, but called on Republicans to rally around his candidacy. Some also question whether Trump is serious about running.
